How do you attack your personal and business growth goals?
I just finished (and recommend) a great book; “Standout” by Marcus Buckingham. Along with a well-rated ‘talent finder’ test, Marcus teaches the value of highlighting and living through your strengths and talents.
For years I’ve spent time identifying and working on my weaknesses. What a freeing feeling to be relieved of that non-productive grind. I immediately set out to find my strengths as I was energized by the challenge.
I admit it. I’m an “Achiever.” That’s one of the strength themes that Tom Rath talks about in his book, “Stengthsfinder.” He describes an‘Achiever’ like this: “constant need for achievement…drive. You feel as if every day starts at zero…and by every day you mean every single day---workdays, weekends, vacations. You have an internal fire burning inside of you…pushing you to do more…It dwindles for a moment but very soon it rekindles itself forcing you toward the next accomplishment. It brings you the energy you need to work long hours without burning out. It is the jolt you can always count on to get you started on new tasks, new challenges. It is the power supply that causes you to set the pace and define the levels of productivity for your work group.”
I achieve by giving more than taking. My passion is people, encouraging them to discover their truest purpose, their heart in their work that will make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others they touch.
My 26 years in real estate has allowed me to work with core values of trust and connection to encourage my clients to discover their best opportunity to achieve their real estate dreams. 15 years ago at Susan Sells, we wrote that purpose statement and continue to uphold that commitment today and going forward.
My passion for the encouragement of people and my belief in their discovery of a higher purpose has led me to teaching and coaching agents through challenges, limiting beliefs, in team building and connecting with their prospects and themselves. I have never learned as much or grown as much in any area as with teaching.
So how do you succeed better and faster?
Don’t go at it alone. If personal and business leadership growth is your goal, find others who have similar goals.
I have begun to facilitate Mastermind Groups studying leadership. These small groups become safe, harmonious growth environments for members who come prepared to add to the group rather than take. Members prepare questions, bring ideas, present concepts, provoke thoughts of the group. With a high clash of ideas, low clash of egos, they get new and inpsired ideas back, they gain new perspectives for their goals and action plans.
This group work results in momentum and breakthrough growth. I find that like teaching, when I give everything I have, my best, more than I take, I inevitably get more than I ever expect.
I am a certified coach, teacher, speaker with The John Maxwell Team, an worldwide group committed to make a difference with people. I am certified to teach many of John’ Maxwell’s material like “Everybody Communicates but Few Connect,” “21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” and many more.
